Privacy policy

Fairlyst · Last updated 29 March 2026

This policy describes how we handle personal information when you use Fairlyst. It is designed to meet common expectations of Google Play and Apple’s App Store for disclosure of data practices.

Introduction

Fairlyst (“we”, “us”) operates the Fairlyst mobile application (the “App”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use the App.

Fairlyst is built to help you and people you trust record expenses, split costs, organize groups, and see balances and activity in one place. Our purpose is to make shared spending easier to understand and fairer to track. This policy may change as we add features (for example optional subscriptions, advertising, or sponsorships); see “Updates to this policy” below.

Last updated: 29 March 2026. If we make material changes, we will update this policy and, where required, notify you in the App or by email.

Information we collect

Account information: name, email address, and credentials you provide when you register or sign in.

Profile & preferences: optional profile details, currency preferences, notification preferences, and other in-app settings you choose to save.

Content you create: expenses, splits, groups, categories, settlements, and related metadata (e.g. dates, amounts, notes, attachments if you upload them) that you enter in the App.

Technical data: device type, operating system version, app version, language, and diagnostic or crash data needed to operate and secure the service.

If you enable push notifications, we process tokens or identifiers required to deliver them to your device.

If we introduce optional subscriptions or in-app purchases, payment processing is handled by Apple, Google, or other authorized payment partners. We do not receive your full payment card number; we may receive limited information such as subscription status, product identifiers, and transaction references needed to unlock features.

If we introduce advertising, sponsorships, or analytics beyond what is essential to run the App, we may collect or receive advertising identifiers, coarse location, or usage data as described when those features go live and in any consent prompts we present where required by law.

We do not sell your personal information as that phrase is commonly used in U.S. state privacy laws. If we ever offer personalized advertising or “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising, we will describe it clearly and provide choices or opt-outs where required.

Subscriptions, billing, and app stores

Paid plans or add-ons may be offered now or in the future. Purchases are processed by the applicable app store or payment platform; their terms and privacy policies also apply.

We use purchase-related data only to validate entitlements, prevent fraud, provide support, and meet accounting or legal requirements.

Advertising, sponsorships, and analytics

We may introduce advertising, sponsored placements, or brand partnerships inside the App or on our website. Such content will be labeled where appropriate.

We may use analytics or advertising partners who process data on our behalf. Where the law requires consent for non-essential cookies, identifiers, or tracking, we will ask before enabling those technologies.

You can often limit ad tracking or reset advertising identifiers in your device settings (for example Apple’s “Tracking” or Google’s Ads settings), subject to platform rules.

How we use your information

To provide the App: authenticate you, sync your data with our servers, compute balances and activity, and show your information across devices.

To improve and secure the service: troubleshoot issues, measure reliability, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

To communicate with you: service-related messages (e.g. security, account, billing, or subscription notices). Marketing or promotional messages, if any, will be optional and clearly identified.

If we monetize the service (subscriptions, ads, or sponsors), to operate those programs fairly, measure performance, and comply with partner or regulatory requirements.

Legal bases (EEA, UK, and similar regions)

Where applicable law requires a “legal basis”, we rely on: performance of a contract (providing the App you requested); legitimate interests (security, product improvement), balanced against your rights; consent where we ask for it; and legal obligation where required.

Sharing and processors

We use service providers (e.g. hosting, infrastructure, email delivery, analytics, customer support tools) who process data on our instructions and under appropriate agreements.

If we use advertising networks, payment processors, or sponsor integrations, they receive only the data needed to provide those services and are bound by contract or industry rules where applicable.

We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect rights, safety, and security.

Data retention

We retain your information while your account is active and as needed to provide the App.

Billing and subscription records may be kept for the period required by tax, accounting, and app store rules.

If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize personal data in line with our backend practices and applicable law, subject to limited retention where required (e.g. legal compliance).

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect data in transit and at rest. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing.

You can update much of your information in the App. For other requests, contact us using the email below. You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Children

The App is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

International transfers

If you use the App from outside the country where our servers are located, your information may be transferred to and processed in other countries. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses).

Updates to this policy

We will update this Privacy Policy as our service evolves—including if we introduce subscriptions, advertising, sponsors, or new data uses. Material changes will be reflected here and, where required, communicated in the App or by email before or when they take effect.
